I’m partnering with Always Eat After 7pm for today’s post, and the opinions expressed are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that make The Wise Willow possible! Please consult with your physician before starting any new nutrition program. 🙂
Recently I wrote about starting on a new nutrition journey with Always Eat After 7pm and talked about why I’m using this book in particular and prefaced some of the goals I’m working towards which is where today’s post comes in!
My Nutrition Goals
My main goal for the summer months and for this time of change is to make an effort to eat meals at regular intervals and at the same time each day. I struggle with this so much, especially when the seasons change and the daylight hours are different. Right now the sun is setting close to 9pm and it’s completely thrown off my meal routine! Staying inside these past few months has also made it difficult to stick with a routine, and much easier to get into a rut of eating cereal and snacks for all my meals.
My other goal is to balance out the types of foods I’m eating with each meal and throughout the week to make sure I’m balancing out my nutrient levels and keeping consistent natural energy throughout the day and week. I tend to have motivation to cook meals one week and then the next week will keep reaching for cereal and cheese and crackers rather than finding a balance.
My Progress So Far
Always Eat After 7pm has given me a lot of new ideas for balancing my meals, mealtimes, and lots of new recipes! I have started to eat meals at more regular times and align them with other goals of mine (to take my vitamins after I eat, to eat right when I have a full cup of coffee).
I still struggle with nutrition and balancing meals when life situations come up, and so one of my new goals is to meal prep as much as possible and have a few ready to eat or to go meals on hand for when these situations happen. As some of you may know, my dog Oliver has a number of chronic health struggles we’re working through (mainly food allergies and related things). Some weeks he’ll need to go in for an unanticipated vet visit (which happened yesterday) and I’ll find myself going half a day or longer without any food or just eating snacks that I have in my bag.
What I Love About Always Eat After 7pm
Relating to my goals, I love that Always Eat After 7pm has easy to read charts when it comes to how to portion out meals for maximum nutritional value! These are so easy to read and they have items from a range of dietary preferences so this book is definitely something that can be modified to fit all dietary needs (which is hard to find!).
This book also has so much information about how common foods are beneficial and how to portion them out into your daily and weekly meal routine–there is so much I didn’t know about fruits/vegetables/proteins and that’s exactly why I’m loving using Always Eat After 7pm for my new goals! Here are a few examples:
- “Like berries, cherries are rich in antioxidants and phytochemicals. An important late-night benefit of cherries is that they may help promote sleep because they contain melatonin”
- “Kiwifruit is another serotonin-boosting fruit that been shown to have beneficial effects on sleep…It is also a good source of fiber, particularly because it provides what’s referred to as prebiotic fiber. Prebiotics are “food” for probiotics, helping them grow and thus stimulating more healthy bacteria in the gut”
There are also examples of healthy morning routine practices (something I’ve always struggled to maintain!) and how to fit nutrition into those practices seamlessly!
Also the recipes are absolutely delicious!! Just look at these two!
Something about fresh fruit in the summer is absolutely incredible, and I’ve always loved how easy loaded baked potato recipes are (especially with sweet potatoes…mmmm!)! This book has given me so much needed recipe inspiration combined with information about how to balance my meals and I’ve been making great progress on my goals! This week I’m going to pick out a few recipes that I want to meal prep in advance for those busy days or for when unexpected situations come up.
