New Year Q&A:

New YearWelcome to my first post of 2016! I am very excited to continue my blogging adventure into the New Year! If you remember from my 2015 reflection post, one of my main goals for this year was to tell you more about me. With that in mind, I thought I would answer your questions from Twitter and Facebook. So without further ado, let’s begin!

What is the first thing that you do in the morning?

On school mornings, the first thing that I do is turn off my alarm (and contemplate how the morning could have possibly come so quickly). I will then stretch and make myself get out of bed so that I have time to eat breakfast before class. On weekends I will usually read or browse my favorite social media sites for half an hour before eating breakfast.

If you could teleport by blinking your eyes right now, where would you go?

Interesting question! I would choose to go to Sweden because I have always wanted to visit that part of the world (my family is half Swedish). I have also always wanted to see the northern lights and stay for a night in the famous ice hotel!

What is the one thing you would most like to change about the world?

I would like to change the apathy that is prevalent in the world today. I would ensure that every living thing is treated with respect, compassion, and kindness. I think that if this were to become a reality, we could live fulfilling lives and connect with people all over the world.

Which countries have you visited?

I have been to the United States, England, Italy, and Germany. I aspire to travel the world after I finish with college and visit as many places as I can (let me know what places you have visited as I am always looking for places to add to my travel plans)!

Are you a dog person or a cat person?

I am a dog person. I love everything about dogs, and they bring so much joy to my life. I currently have two dogs, and it has been very difficult to go months without seeing them now that I am in college. I like cats as well (I love animals in general), but I don’t think that I could ever be a cat owner.

What is the first thing you think of when you wake up in the morning?

This is very similar to the first question, but interestingly enough when I wake up I am usually thinking in Spanish. My first language is English, but I have been learning Spanish for about nine years now. I consciously have to switch my mind to English to start my day. I think this may be because most of my Spanish classes have been held in the morning, so my mind is used to thinking in Spanish during that time of day.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I am definitely a night owl! I usually go to bed after midnight, and have no problem with staying up late. Mornings, however, are quite the challenge. I love watching the sunrise, but I have never been able to get up without a lot of effort in the early hours of the morning.

If you could choose any fictional universe to live in, not including Harry Potter, which one would you choose and why?

Great question! I love reading, so this is a really difficult choice. After thinking about it for a while, I determined that I would like to live in the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians (written by Rick Riordan, one of my favorite authors). I think that being able to live in a place where you have groups of demigods that work together despite their differences would be an amazing adventure. My runner-up choice would be Neverland because that was one of my favorite stories as a child. It would be interesting to live in a place where you never aged, and where you could explore according to your imagination.

What are your fears?

Unfortunately I have quite a few fears, but I have been able to overcome a few of them. My longest-held fear is a fear of heights. It is not so much the height that I fear as much as the potential of falling. I am also afraid of enclosed or crowded spaces, being underground, the ocean (I can’t even put a toe in the ocean, especially after seeing Jaws!), planes, boats, and elevators (though I have been able to get over this fear for the most part).

What is your favorite color?

My favorite color has always been purple. I think it is a very calming color with many beautiful shades. I also quite like coral (the orange and pink hue) and aquamarine.

What is your favorite book genre?

I love dystopian fiction. I have read so many incredible books in this genre, and I keep finding more! There is something about the future scenarios that authors create that makes these books amazing reads. Whenever I sit down to read a dystopian fiction, I know that I will not be able to put it down! I also love historical fiction as well as historical fantasy (including the Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles series by Rick Riordan).

If you could go back in time and give your younger self advice, what would it be and why?

I love this question. I would tell myself to not worry so much about what others think, and to pursue my dreams because I want to pursue them. At one point in my life, I was consumed by the idea that everyone else had a talent and a skill whereas I did not (I talked a lot about this in my post about becoming my best self). I was also consumed by the trends that were popular during my middle and high school years. While I never really gave into these trends, the fact that I didn’t do so weighed heavily on my conscience. I would like to tell my younger self to focus on all of the things that brought me joy in my life, and to worry less about the thoughts and actions of others.

I hope that you enjoyed this week’s post! Feel free to leave more questions in the comments if you have them, as I would love to answer them! 🙂
