My (Reverse) Bucket List

My (Reverse) Bucket ListSeeing as this will be my last post of 2015 (which I still cannot believe!), I thought I would write my Reverse Bucket List. While looking at thirteen , I stumbled upon this idea. How does this differ from the traditional Bucket List? Well, it is essentially the opposite–that is, it is a list of what you have already accomplished. Many people create lists of what they would like to accomplish in the future, but they don’t look at the amazing things that they have already done. This is also a way for you to get to know more about me as we head into the New Year! 🙂

Alyssa’s Reverse Bucket List:

  • Learned to Ski in Colorado
  • Learned how to horseback ride in classic English style
  • Took six years of violin lessons
  • Went sliding down a hill on a block of ice
  • Spent six days on a wilderness trip at the age of thirteen
  • Went whitewater rafting down the Arkansas River
  • Visited a wolf sanctuary in Westcliffe, Colorado
  • Traveled to England
  • Traveled to Italy
  • Traveled to Germany (accidentally)
  • Briefly visited Switzerland via a very old and rickety mountain train
  • Toured the Royal Gorge via train in Cañon City, Colorado
  • Stayed overnight at the Stanley Hotel in room 208 (and lived to tell the tale!)
  • Went inner tubing down a ski hill at Steamboat Springs, Colorado
  • Accidentally stumbled upon a pub in Little Venice, England called the Warwick Castle
  • Successfully raised 50+ butterflies in the middle of winter
  • Completed 9 years of Spanish language study
  • Built an igloo during a snow storm in 2003
  • Traveled to Fort Lauderdale
  • Swam with a sea lion (and successfully avoided stepping on a lobster with bare feet)
  • Got over my fear of dogs
  • Backpacked in Rocky Mountain National Park
  • Graduated from high school
  • Completed lessons in painting
  • Completed lessons in clay

  • Saw Hannah Montana and The Cheetah Girls in concert (yes, this was my first concert…they were popular back in 2006! 😛 )
  • Went spelunking in a mine 1000 feet below the ground, as well as in Glenwood Caverns
  • Toured the Capitol Building in Des Moines
  • Learned how to ride a mountain bike
  • Worked on a Forestry team, and learned the details about forest fire prevention
  • Stayed at the Broadmoor Hotel

  • Completed 5 years of service at Avista Adventist Hospital

aven-armand-884323_1280Now that I have written out my Reverse Bucket List, it only makes sense to write a regular Bucket List to look to the future (2016 is fast approaching, after all 🙂 )

Alyssa’s Bucket List:

  • Complete a degree program at Grinnell College
  • Go to graduate school in Italy for a one year Master’s program
  • Live and travel in Europe
  • Backpack in mountains across the United States and Europe
  • Travel to Chile
  • Start my own non-profit business
  • See The Script and One Republic in concert
  • Live in Vermont and run a farm
  • Write a book
  • Get a cartilage ear piercing
  • Learn how to speak Italian, Arabic, Swedish, and Portuguese
  • Start a Youtube channel, and film my adventures
  • Help with a micro-finance group
  • Own a small cottage
  • Make connections around the world, never living in one place for an extended period of time
  • Rescue older dogs from shelters when I have the resources to adopt

winter-barn-556696_1280Writing out both of these lists was a great way for me to reflect on the past and the future. It took quite a while to create my Reverse Bucket List, as I had to think through all that I have done throughout the entirety of my life. But once I had come up with the list, I had revisited many fond memories! I hope you enjoyed this post, and I encourage you to create lists of your own! What are your Bucket List plans for the New Year? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

  • I’m grateful I was able to witness so many of the items on your reverse list, and I can’t wait to hear about each bucket list item as you accomplish it!
