Blogger Interview Series: The Somnambulist

Welcome to another blogger interview! I have officially finished my fall semester on my study abroad program, and am preparing to head home! The time went by so fast, and I’m excited to spend more time on my blog this winter break.

Today I wanted to post another blogger interview for my series, which is a project that has been so rewarding! I hope you enjoy today’s interview with The Somnambulist, and stay tuned for more!

What is your favorite song at the moment?

Glow from Being as an Ocean.

What is your favorite type of food (or types if there are ties!)?

I like to eat vegetarian/vegan dishes. I’m not really a vegetarian/vegan but I try to eat less meat since I’m pretty picky with how meaty dishes are being prepared and also had several issues with eating too much meat.

Coffee, tea, neither, or both?

LOVE both!

Do you prefer to hand write or to type?

Depends on what I’m writing. Regarding my blog, I’d rather type because I can save everything online and can access them anywhere if needed. Nonetheless, writing with pen and paper always feels so natural and personal and adds an individual touch to my notes.

What is your favorite season?

I like all seasons, but if I’d had to narrow it down I’d pick autumn and winter because I love cold weather and like to snuggle up under my blanket.

What is your favorite book (or one that you would recommend at the moment)?

I barely read and to be honest I’m pretty lazy when it comes to reading books, although I’d love to read more. My favourite book is “The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy” by Tim Burton. It’s a book with illustrations, poems and short stories by him.

Any fun facts you want to share?

I love horror movies, even though I’m a little scaredy cat!

When did you start your blog, and what was the reasoning behind it? Similarly, what was the inspiration behind your blog/brand name (and did you find it difficult to create)?

I started my blog in September but I had the idea of running my one about a year ago. I always loved to share my experiences and opinions with others, hoping that it would help them. My inspiration to start a blog was Luanda Perez, another fashion blogger I’ve been following for a while. “The Somnambulist” is a synonym for a sleepwalker. I chose it because I’m more of a night owl, I stay up all night and am more active at night time. During the day I’m a bit like a sleepwalker due to lack of sleep.

When you first started blogging, did you have a goal in mind for where you wanted it to (or thought it would) take you? Have you reached that goal or changed it?

I don’t really have a specific goal for my blog. The only thing I hope for is that whatever I write can help my readers.

What did you know about blogging before you started? What were the resources you used to find out more?

I didn’t know much about blogging. I only knew that it was a lot of work and that most bloggers do it because they have a passion for what they write about. To learn more, I started to do some research about blogging by reading other peoples blogs and analyse how they run it. I also read how-to posts and guides for new bloggers these helped me understand that blogging needs a lot of preparation and planning.

What, if anything, has been an unexpected part of your blogging journey?

The stress. I knew that it would be stressful but I didn’t expect it to be this intense. I have to prepare a lot, plan ahead and keep track of what I’m writing. I thought that it would only take one day to prepare a blog post, but there is more to it.

Where do you find your inspiration to continue blogging? Has your inspiration stayed the same since you started your blog?

I love helping people, this inspires me to keep on blogging and write more about my experiences and what I love.

What is your favorite social media platform or method of communication with your readers? What about the platform makes it your favorite?

I don’t really have a favourite platform to communicate to my readers, but the ones I frequently use are Instagram & Twitter. They can contact me on many platforms and I try to answer as soon as possible.

If you had to sum up everything that you have learned about blogging to tell someone new to the community, what would you tell them?

Blogging is a lot of work and should not be underestimated. It is good to prepare in advance and plan it properly. A good schedule is key to being organized. It takes time to decide on what kind of blog you’d like to run and it is important that you are happy with what you’ll be writing about.

Have you ever rebranded your blog or changed direction with it? How did this process come about, and why did you decide to make the change? (Or, are you looking to rebrand your blog in the future?)

I haven’t until now and currently am not planning to in the future.

What has been your favorite part about blogging overall (if you could only pick one!)?

Organising and planning is currently my favourite part about blogging. Even though it can be quite stressful, I love it when I get into a workflow and come up with ideas and posts. Achieving this makes me so happy.

Have you ever experienced ‘bloggers block’ or a slump in motivation? How have you overcome this challenge?

I did experience “bloggers block” 1-2 times up until now. I always remind myself that I took on a responsibility when I started this blog and that I promised to stay consistent and to only take on a break when I’ve announced it. This keeps me motivated to keep on writing and as soon as I start working on my posts I get motivated again.

Where do you see your blog taking you in the future? What are your goals for the next few months/years?

Haven’t thought much about that yet, but my goal for the next few months/years is to grow my audience and reach as many readers as possible.

What is your favorite part about the creative process? (i.e. do you have a favorite step in the blog post writing process, a favorite topic or style, etc.)

I love planing and preparing blog posts. Whenever I get to write down some new ideas or concepts, I always get so excited!

If you could pick three words, to sum up your blogging journey, what would they be?

Consistency, responsibility, and personal.

Who are the creators or people in your life that inspire you?

I don’t have specific people from which I gain my inspiration from. Everyone and everything can inspire me and I’m not really limiting myself on only a few people.

Thank you so much for being a part of my blogger interview series!
