From Then to Now: A Journey Through 2015

happy new year!I cannot believe that 2016 is almost here. 2015 was a very busy year for me, and it almost feels as though there is no way that it can be over! Of course, 2015 was the year in which I decided to launch this blog, and I am incredibly grateful that I chose to do so. Seeing as there is a new year on the horizon, I thought I would write a post about why I chose to start this blog and where I would like it to go in the upcoming year.

sunset-731307_1280On a sunny day in July, I found myself scrolling through my Pinterest feed with no particular goal in mind. Pinterest is a wonderful website for stumbling upon inspiration, and I often will scroll through my feed to see what wonderful ideas the rest of the world has. As I was scrolling through, I came across a post detailing how to start a blog. The thought of establishing an internet presence had never occurred to me, but my curiosity spurred me to click on the link that ignited the spark of creativity that I had been searching for.

This post was on a blog called Mostly Morgan, written by Morgan Timm (click here to learn more about her wonderful blog!). It detailed the process of starting a blog, and the common misconceptions behind the creation and establishment of an internet space. As I read through the steps, I realized that blogging was what I had been unknowingly looking for throughout my years of high school. My desire to share my experiences to help others, and my love for creative writing made blogging a perfect fit. Intrigued, I spent weeks researching the specifics of such an endeavor, and decided to give it a shot.

In August of this year I began my first year of college. Because of this, I thought that starting a blog would be a great addition to my new routine and lifestyle. I was right! Blogging has added so much to my college experience. It has encouraged me to reflect on this exciting time in my life, and to think about what others might be able to learn from my experiences. Over the past few months, my blog has grown to reflect my inspirations. I have written about my weekly musings (those seemingly random thoughts that float through my mind as I reflect on my day each night), my favorite reads, inspiring organizations, fun DIY projects, and my college advice.

nature-591708_1280Blogging has encouraged me to view the world through a different lens, and I don’t think I could ever go back. I see positive potential in every experience, even if it is simply the notion that others may be able to learn from my experiences. I have learned how to see the little things in life, and those details have brought me tremendous joy. Every day is a new day filled with amazing opportunities. A spontaneous thought turns into a profound realization. The beauty of the setting sun makes me pause in appreciation. My eyes now search for what is often overlooked, and every day has been filled with new meaning.

With a new year comes new goals. I have not been blogging for long, but I already want it to be a significant part of my life. I feel as though blogging has allowed me to express myself in a way that I never thought possible. Because of this, I wanted to share with you a few goals that I have for my blog in the upcoming year.

media-998990_1280The first has to do with connections. Now that I have been blogging for a few months, I want to get to know more about YOU! Your support means more to me than words can express, and I would love to get to know you better. I have created a twitter account (@alyssa_debella) on which I am going to start tweeting more questions to you, my readers. Similarly, I want you to get to know more about me. At the beginning of the new year, I am going to launch a Q&A, and write a post in which I answer your questions! This will most likely be under the hashtag #askalyssa, but I will keep you updated with details in the near future!

The second goal has to do with content. I am very inspired by the themes I cover in my current blog posts, and I would like to add on to those themes as the year goes on. I am going to start creating more favorites posts (monthly favorites, themed favorites, etc). I would also like to start more lifestyle posts now that I have adjusted to my life in college. These might include routine posts and makeup looks. I am also very interested in creating a category that deals with one of my academic passions, which is the study of Peace and Conflict. I have written a few Op-Ed pieces that I would eventually like to publish on my blog to expand the topics that I cover, and to give you a sense of my academic and career interests.

lens-515479_1280My final goal has to do with media. Blogging will always be my main avenue of expression, as it is tailored to my interest in creative writing. However, I am also interested in creating a channel on YouTube for videos that reflect my current content, and a few video blogs (vlogs) as a means by which to expand my voice. I would love to create complementary videos to DIY projects and favorites as many people enjoy being able to watch reviews and similar content. I am also interested in establishing an Instagram account for the blog, on which I will post pictures as I fine tune my photography skills over the next year.

As December draws to a close, I would like to extend my most sincere appreciation to all of you who have supported me in this wonderful endeavor. I would not have been able to reach this point without all of your support, and for that I am truly grateful.

As I mentioned before, I am excited to connect with all of you as I continue this incredible journey, and I wish you the happiest of holidays and new years!
